Hi,
I took GMAT yesterday and got bombed in verbal section. Scored a 29 in VA (in QA: 48).
I am targeting fall of 2014 and I need to hit round one applications and I know this score is not good for that. I need to take GMAT again and get a score 700+ but I am unsure of how to achieve it.
I have gone through OG12, VA 2nd Ed and GMAT practice pack 1 and I know almost all the questions answers
.
I know need practice but now I am running short of standard practice material
I have ordered SC Grail 3rd from eBay (I was referencing
MGMAT SC earlier), hoping this book will give me crystal clear concepts unlike
MGMAT which required constant getting back to.
I referred to
Power Score CR bible, owing to the great reviews I learnt from blogs, the book did help me in building initial concepts, however I am not very sure of my CR answers now when I mark them. (The same happened in the exam too). I also referred to 1000 CR and SC question bank for some time; it did help but I ended up finding those questions in my
MGMAT Mock Tests and GMATPreps Tests, so I stopped using it.
My scores in Mocks werent also not that great. They hovered from 630-650. (
MGMAT & GMAT Prep), though I scored a 700 and 710 in GMATPrep. I guess that was mainly because I saw a bunch of repeated questions in VA and QA.
RC also needs improvement in terms of accuracy. I am constantly hitting 66-80% accuracy. I generally try to understand the passage and then start answering the questions but often it takes more time than I should dedicate. I feel I need a ramp up my accuracy and speed. In general during the exam I felt I was slow with verbal since I was not very sure of the answers and at the end I was running short of time which might have screwed things more badly than they were. I was left with 8-9 questions with 6 min at hand. That might also have negated any improvements on my verbal score if it all there was one before I hit the time crunch.
In short I was lacking confidence and hence I took time to find the correct answers.
Now I need to sort a road ahead, and how to go about it. What practice material should I hit and what books should I go back to? Also if its possible, determine when should I reschedule my GMAT?
