Hi vanshikamunjal,

First off, a 730/Q50 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is not necessary. Since you are interested in some highly-competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

Hi vanshikamunjal,

Given how well you were scoring on your official practice exams, I do think that it would be worth giving the GMAT another shot. If you decide you’d like to retake the GMAT and need any advice, feel free to reach out. Also, here is an article you may find helpful:

Hi,

I recently attempted GMAT and got a score of 730(Q50, V38, IR 5).

Following were my official practice exams scores:
GMAT Prep1: 690
GMAT Prep2: 750
GMAT Prep3: 740
GMAT Prep4: 760

And I took some other mocks with scores ranging from 720 to 750.

I'm targeting the top 20 B-schools. Although I know it's a good score, I know I can do better. The question is, should I? Will it really improve my chances of getting an admit?

Hi Vanshika (@vanshikamunjal)

For a top 20 target, a 730 is a decent score. While there is a possibility that you could further enhance it to get a 750, you need to balance it out against the trade-offs. How much time would it need (remember, incremental increases closer to the 99th percentile are harder to accomplish)? Also, are there clearly identifiable areas you could target to get to 750, or is it more a matter of practice? Further, how important is it for you to target top 10 schools as against those ranked 10-20?

You should also provide enough time for your applications. A 730 is a good score already, and you may want to start working on your apps (assuming you are applying in R1) soon as well. If you do decide to retake, give it a definite timeline (say, 3 weeks).

Hope this helps. Please feel free to come back with more questions as needed or to contact us directly at our email in our signature below for a 1-1 discussion.

Hey.
You're right. I feel like I need this time to work on the rest of my profile, instead of taking GMAT again. And about the schools, any school in the top 20 works. I was actually targeting schools like HEC Paris, Berkeley, Columbia, etc. Just not sure whether 730 will get me in any of these.

GMAT is just one element of your application.
A CBS colleague got a full ride with 720 and surely a stellar application.
If you plan to apply early decision to CBS and to other schools round 1 then I think it is a good time to start crafting those applications.
Good luck!
