Hey folks, I was wondering how many grammar rules does the GMAT test. I have been hearing all sorts of things such as 7,8,9, and one person even told me to start learning grammar from scratch. Also, what books would you recommend for the verbal section. I know ManhattanPrep, PowerScore, OG and Mangoosh are good enough to grasp the content and apply it. Any advice would be helpful.

GMAT does not test grammar rules as such,but it tests 8 major grammar categories(concepts). Concepts tested are listed below as per the frequency/importance.
Parallelism
Modifications/modifiers
Idioms
Verb tenses
Subject Verb agreement
Comparisons
Wordiness/ Redundancy
Efficiency/ Concision
As far as the resources are concerned, Manhattan SC and Powerscore CR bible should be sufficient. You can always refer to the tonnes of free material available here on the forum should you need.

Go through the manhattan prep strategy guides at first and focus on the meaning of sentences a lot.
