Hi jbatra,

To start, the immediate issue is whether the specific Programs that you're interested in will accept either a GMAT Score or a GRE Score as part of the application package or not. As long as both options are available to you, then it certainly stands to reason that you should focus on whichever Test you're more comfortable with (re: the one that will allow you to perform at a higher overall 'score level'). In addition, since you know the specific Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans.

Thank you Rich.

I kinda stumbled on websites of my target schools and it seems like they accept GRE.

I just hope there is no bias at all when it comes to scores.

Hi jbatra,

Unless you find out that any of your desired schools prefer the GMAT over the GRE, you should not have any issues with taking the GRE instead of the GMAT. That said, I agree that before making a decision, it makes sense to take a practice GRE, so you can see how that compares to the GMAT for you. Once you take a practice GRE, feel free to report back here with your score breakdown, and I’d be happy to provide some further advice. In the meantime, you may find it helpful to read the following article:

Thanks, Scott for Replying!

Scored 318 on gre Kaplan free mock test (I'll admit I had to go to washroom many times so I took the liberty to excuse myself as and when needed Q166 V152
This is equivalent to 650 on GMAT as per the ETS converter.

I'll look forward to whatever advice I can have.

Particularly interested in scoring a very high score to consider admits from Insead Singapore, NUS, HKUST, ISB and other top B schools in the US but the first preference is of location and hence Singapore comes closest in Asia to me.

Also, I am not afraid about vocabulary I think I have a knack and can do better.

Any plans or dedicated schedule I can have to better my performance?

Hi jbatra,

If you have a strong overall profile, then there likely will not be a bias against taking the GRE instead of the GMAT. That having been said, there are lots of details to your profile to consider, which is why I suggested that you consult with an Admissions Expert regarding your application plans.

The GRE is just as consistent and predictable as the GMAT is, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. To properly plan out this next phase of your studies, it would help to know a bit more about your prior studies and timeline:

1) How long have you studied in total for each Exam? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your practice tests/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What are the exact application deadlines that you are facing?

2) What study materials have you used so far? I used Manhattan books for SC, Powerscore for CR and nothing for Quant as I feel I 'm okayish with it
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your practice tests/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
December 3 2019, GMAT official mock Q48,V24, Overall 600
April 16,2020, GRE Kaplan free mock, Q166, V,152, Overall 318
4) What are the exact application deadlines that you are facing? I am yet to look into the same , I have just filtered out my schools that I wanna apply but I haven't started looking into the deadlines yet

Hi jbatra,

If you are not facing any immediate application deadlines, then you not have to necessarily rush in to take the GRE/GMAT in one month. Since you have noted a preference for Asian Schools, I suggest that you research those Schools a bit more - so that you can get a better sense of the type of GRE Score that you might need to be considered a competitive Applicant. To that end, if you cannot find the exact information that you're looking for online, you should consider directly contacting each School's Admissions Department. Those administrators will likely be happy to answer any questions that you might have and may be able to help you with your applications.

Once you have a specific GRE Score Goal in mind, we can then plan out an appropriate GRE Study Plan for you.

1) Are you thinking about applying to School later on this year (re: the typical Round 1 or Round 2 deadlines) or farther off in the future?

Hi jbatra,

Before providing further advice, I'd like to know, did you decide to take the GRE? If so, would you like some general advice on how to improve your GRE quant and verbal skills?

Hi, jbatra
I just saw your discussion over the subject to whether switch from GMAT to GRE preparation. I am in an early stage of the gmat preparation, I have invested some money in terms of OGs and verbal online classes but then getting a score that gets me in remains the top priority , I have to apply for MiM courses in a coupleo of colleges for R1, anr all of them claim to be gre gmat neutral. I have heard GRe 320+ is rather attainable in this window of time I have, your opinion here could be of great value here as this is a big decision for me. Thanks in advance.

Hi wastedBuddha,

To start, you might find it helpful to start your own post-thread (instead of piggy-backing on this one). You will likely receive advise from a number of different posters - and I'll be happy to answer any questions that you might have. Before I can offer you any specific advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied for the GMAT? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
