@atHaas - Which cohort are you in - Evening or Weekend. Can you shed light on advantage or disadvantage of one over other, if any? :thanks
:btw Was the forum activity similar last time around during first round. See very few folks here.

I'm in the Evening cohort. Evenings have 2 types. Mon / Wed or Tues / Thurs. If you're in the Southbay, Haas provides two free shuttle services. A shuttle that will pick up from Mountain View at 415. Or one that picks you up in Santa Clara. The shuttles have wifi, generally okay, spotty at times. You'll arrive at class about 10-15 mins before class depending on traffic. The shuttle departs at 945, and you'll be back in SC/MV around 1030.

I personally like the Evening Cohorts because the lectures go by really fast and is a nice break from the work day. The first part of class is from 6pm to 730pm. Then a 45 min dinner break. The second part of class is from 815 to 930. I heard from some Weekend folks that an All day Saturday class can be draining.

People in the SF/Berkeley area tend to hangout after class each week at the local pub after class. Southbay folks will join them on occasion (ex. after finals, midterms). You'll start to get close to most of your classmates by the end of the first 10 weeks of class. (there's around 60-65 people per class). Professors will also come out to the pubs with you once in a while (Especially after finals.)

advantages of evening: class goes by fast, you have your weekends free (although for Fall there are 2 all-day Saturday classes that evenings need to attend. Weekend cohorts do these on 2 Sundays). In Spring there will be 4 half day saturday's for evening. This might change based on the core curriculum changes coming next year.

disadvantages of evening: not much time to hangout after class, but it can work.

In the spring, it's going to be 4 1/2 day classes on Sunday. Although, this is changing entirely next year. So, I'm not 100% sure what they're planning on doing for the sunday classes.

The core for next years' incoming class is being expanded to 3 semesters from the current 2. So, some of our sunday classes may be moved.

First round app here. The wait is so stressful. My file as been "under review" for the past 3 weeks. Is this even a good sign? I'm hoping I get an invite for interview but nothing has changed. Sigh...

Yeah, Frankie, Casach and I are in the same boat as you. I prefer to believe that our applications are just further down a randomized list, but that may be wishful thinking, haha. My application status hasn't budged since I submitted my application on Nov. 20th. As I mentioned here earlier, my status still indicates a missing transcript that I'm sure that they have by now, but it says that it "may take up to 6 weeks after the application deadline" for that stuff to get updated.

When did you submit your stuff?

I submitted my all my stuff on the 20th like you. lolll.

I had a different issue with updates on my application similar to your issue with transcripts. They said that sometimes the system won't let them update but assured me that they received all my materials.

I'm sure the same applies to you.

You could also check with the school that sent out your transcripts. I know mine provided a tracking number on their site which I used to verify that they my transcript was sent.

Well maybe the 20th was a big day. That would support my hope that we are just buried under applications, and our interview invites are coming in January!

I got accepted to Anderson R1 and will have to make commitment by 1/31/14; however, the admission for Haas might not become available until 2/7 (based on the posts from last year, accepted students got contact 1 day before the official decision posted dates). I also saw an applicant from requesting for early notification from Haas.

I'm not sure what would be a better solution: 1) requesting UCLA to make extensions for commitment date 2) requesting early notifications from UC Berkeley (which has to be at least 7 days earlier than the official notification date)... Anyone running into the same situation? Advise please :D?

Hey deeeeeweeee!
I had asked Courtney Chandler, Senior Associate Director EWMBA Haas, if I can get an early decision assuming I get admitted to a program starting in Jan. She had emailed me back stating that the applicant has to provide a copy(pdf will do) of the acceptance letter at the other university and include the date by which I would want the early decision by. As per her a decision in December end would be a possibility though the adcom could not guarantee that, so I am assuming that a decision in late Jan would be a surety. Of course, since I postponed the Jan starting date of my Leavey Santa Clara MBA program and did not get accepted into UCLA FEMBA R1, I am not in the same boat as you, though would have absolutely loved to be :) ...

Just an FYI, but last year Anderson was extending commitment dates for people that asked (assuming they were waiting to hear from Haas). So, I doubt it'll be a huge problem.

Thanks for ur info, maalage an packet82. I'll start with asking for an extension from Anderson then.
maalage, you still have opportunities for Haas :-D .

Thanks and I hope so deeeeeweeee! By the way, a pretty subjective query here, but does anyone here have an idea on how much does Haas give weightage to the interview vis-a-vis the essays?

And of course, all the best to you casach and other folks who are waiting on their interviews! I didn't see too many interview slot options available when I had my choice and I'm pretty sure that there are going slow and steady with sending their invites with maybe a break until the New Years when they again resume for Jan ... in any case, there is still ~1 month to go next year before they finalize their decisions, so lot of time there ... by the way I will go for the evening cohort if admitted and if its available, since I am local.

Only admissions knows, but they're both important. Look at it this way, GPA and GMAT scores are just a hurdle to get over. Neither of them determine if you're going to get in to the school. The full time program is famous for saying they reject 1/2 the people that apply with a GMAT score >750.

The essay and interview are what makes the adcom decide if you're right for the school. Haas is all about fit. If you don't fit the type of graduate Haas is looking to put out, then you're not getting an offer.

Hi everyone - thought I'd contribute as I just had my interview today. Submitted my app on Nov 20th, got an invite on Dec 11th, and interviewed with Britta Narum today (12/20).

Interview was fairly standard, went about 35 minutes. Britta was very nice and casual, even though I was extremely nervous. Questions were:
- Take me through your resume
- What is your biggest accomplishment
- Biggest weakness
- Biggest strength
- What do you like to do in your free time
- Any questions for me

All in all, I think it went ok but not great. I really wish I could have another shot at two of my answers, but nothing I can do about it now. I'm wondering if I need to send a thank-you follow up letter or email, though. I saw someone ask the same thing earlier. Is the consensus that it's not really necessary?
