So much for the "interview is just a sanity check" theory...

So much for the "you'll get an interview invite if you have a decent GMAT and put a reasonable amount of effort in your application"

They reportedly interview 80% of the applicants. If they decide whether to interview or not based on GMAT + gpa, I don't see how 700 GMAT + 3.5 can be in the bottom 20 percentile. Maybe R1 is just too f*'ed up a round to apply in at Haas. Perhaps this fact should have been discussed more frequently in 2012 forums. I don't know if it would have changed my mind but it would have definitely been worth a consideration.

I conversed back and forth with the student that contacted me and set up time with him tomorrow to discuss his experiences. I'm very curious if they just pulled the candidate list to contact from specific events or just a general list of students that submitted applications. I'm live in SF.

Something tells me that these current students are asked to contact "waitlisted" and "accepted" students, in-state or out-state.

I suspect mine was because I asked a question in the interview that the interviewer didn't know the answer to. She said she'd have someone ask around.
