I'm looking at both HEC and INSEAD. I'd love to hear from anyone who might have had the chance to visit the schools before COVID or who are otherwise familiar with both about how you'd describe the cultures of the two schools. Any notable differences? My vague impression from my research and few conversations with connected people is that HEC seems to be a slightly more collaborative culture vs. a more competition focused one at INSEAD, but I don't know if that impression is justified (nor would I expect anyone at INSEAD to come right out and say "oh, it's extremely cutthroat"). I'd love to be able to get a chance to feel the vibes myself, but alas that's not an option right now.

I'm currently a first year MBA student at HEC and although it's just been a couple of weeks, I can vouch for the strong sense of community here. I don't know how it is at INSEAD (no doubt it's a fantastic school) - but I believe the longer course duration at HEC (16 months vs. 10 months) provides a little more time to explore, settle in, meet with people at leisure, and collaborate. That aside, I have been told (by a professor who has worked in both schools) that INSEAD prepares people very well for a career in consulting (no wonder McKinsey hires a lot there) but for general management/industry, HEC has more eclectic courses and resources to prepare one for a career path in organizations that offer such roles.
