I attempted an OG mock and plotted the difficulty vs. my accuracy on a graph (attached below). Despite getting questions right in that band, I can't understand why the algorithm restricts me within the sub-505 / 505-555 band and does not present me with harder questions (like 655-705/705-805 band).
My score in Quant is 85 points (89th %ile)This is how I plotted the graph: I looked at each question on the GMAT Club forum, noted their difficulty level, and plotted against accuracy.
Hi odd_major,
There are many issues here. For example:
1. The GMAT doesn't give even the best test takers
only high-difficulty questions. That is, even test takers who get a perfect score on a section will see a mix of difficulty levels.
To be clear, I'm not saying the test isn't adaptive. There are many things that the algorithm needs to take into account.
2. The difficulty ratings on GMAT club may not be correct.
Again, to be clear, I'm not saying these ratings are wrong, but the GMAT algorithm will get its data from a different population, at a different time and precision level.
3. The GMAT doesn't have very many super tough questions (this is probably more true for the practice tests).
