Hi guys,

I'm scared a ton here...I used a wrong school name in one of the sentences in the essay. How bad is my mistake?..Will the admission committee reject my application based on this error?

I used this sentence somewhere in the middle of the essay
"the skills I acquired at my workplace and will develop at Boston" for applying to Kelley.

Please help me how I should proceed. Shall I mail to the admissions or call them up or do something else?

There is nothing that you can do now. I would not send them a message to change anything, especially b/c you don't want to draw attention to it.

That being said, they will not deny you admission based on this mistake only. These errors happen more often than you think, espcially since many people apply to multiple schools. I would try to forget about it, b/c we've ready many stories here of people gaining admission even with these types of errors. Adcoms will not throw you under the bus, but they do know now that you are applying to multiple schools.

Another classic case of "DON'T READ YOUR ESSAYS AFTER YOU SUBMIT THEM"! There is nothing you can do now, so finding a mistake will only drive you crazy

Hmm.. I'm not sure about this. Yes, you won't get dinged based on this mistake only, and your's definitely won't be the only such mistake. However, it doesn't do you any favours. I keep coming across numerous blog posts where the Adcoms exasperate that they keep receiving applications with mistakes as "BAD" as having the wrong school in the essays.

I agree with GMATLA that you shouldn't contact the school about this. They're bound to spot it, and your drawing attention to it is not going to help one bit.

All said, if you have a stellar app, this shouldn't affect your chances.

I agree, unless it was a case of using the essays as a reference for another school's app, and then stumbling upon the mistake. I prefer starting each school's essays from scratch any only referring to previous essays if I've been struggling to get anywhere for weeks on end. This may not be possible if you decide to apply to a couple of schools with only a week left (as I once did) :)

I agree, I'm writing my essays one at a time. There are similar concepts at each school I apply and applied to, because everyone had an essay or essays that said:

1. What your your short and long term goals
2. Why an MBA now
3. Why our school?

One school had a prompt about which person or event was very influential to me and why. That reminded me of college admissions essays or a personal statement for a social work program, rather than b school, but I think they just want to see more perspectives on this topic
