Hi guys,

I took the official test this weekend and scored 680 (Q49, V34). I think I can do better and may try again. I scored 4 in IR.... and that's bothering me.

Hi guys,

That is a substantial improvement from last time!
680 is a respectable score. The median score range of 80% of the class of top schools would be 680 - 740.
4 and 5 are about ok scores in IR. They will probably not do anything for your chances - neither decrease them, nor increase them.

You can apply with this score to the top schools or you can choose to retake. It all depends on the timeline you have in mind. Do ensure that you have plenty of time to write very good essays. They will play a major role in the decision of the adcom.

I am planning to go for part time MBA and the 80% middle range for Haas part time is 640-740.
I did score 98% in the critical reasoning section, so I can use that score to justify if school asks.
Yes, I need to focus on essays now!

Hi apsahota,

A 680/Q49 is a really strong score (it's just shy of the 90th percentile), so you should apply to any Business Schools that interest you. Many Business Schools have publicly stated that they do NOT use the IR score as part of the application process, so you really don't have anything to worry about in that area.

What Round(s) are you planning to apply for?

I am targeting round 1 for Haas and round 2 for Anderson/Marshall.

Hi apsahota,

If you're feeling any uncertainty of your standing with the schools of your choice, feel free to reach out to an admissions counselor to discuss your entire profile. Your 680 is a really strong score, but is only one piece of your entire profile, so the admissions counselors at each of your desired schools will be able to shed some light on where you stand and (likely) put you at ease.

That's great news about Haas! Since your last post (prior to this one) was from the end of August, did you end up sticking with your 680 or did you retake the GMAT?
