Congrats! That's a great improvement.

Just wondering:

1. Does anyone have a take whether adcom care that someone took it 6 times? Does that show determination, or it is not important?

2. Or whether they got a higher score the first time, and the next 3 scores were lower? Does that show you got lucky the first time around?

I'm just trying to think of different scenarios.

I have a friend who is a member of the admissions committee at a top 15 school. She said that taking it again, especially if there is an upward trend, shows dedication and perseverance. However, only the highest score holds any weight.

Congratunation mjoeb,

With great dedication and perseverance, You are deserved to what you want. MBA is for you!

I should have posted in here a while ago... but I got caught up with a lot of work...

I have been accepted to the MBA program of my choice.

I'm the one who started this thread a year ago- failed-gmat-5-times-63532.html#p474393

the gmat has been a big struggle for me, because i haven't touched math in so long.

but i got my game together and worked hard. i wrote the exam back in may.

i forgot the breakdown of my gmat score (sorry, but i know my math wasn't impressive at all!) but i got 670. i know it's not as impressive as other members of this forum, but i was really happy to see this score. considering i started out with 380 (YES, 380!). needless to say, i wrote this gmat 6 times.

someone once told me i should probably give up because maybe mba is not for me. but i'm happy i didn't listen to them and neither should anyone reading this post ever have to be discouraged by someone telling you what your limits are.

but i have recieved an offer from a good school in canada, and i have an interview with another. either way, it has been a dark road, full of struggle and tears.

i went back to basics and taught myself everything. I used Kaplan, PR and OG 11. i took PR course twice. i used MGMAT CATS but I felt they were too hard. so i used OG instead.

anyone who is going through a dark road right now, the way i did... don't be scared and don't give up. it can be done. if i can do it, so can you.

i forgot a gentleman's user name, but i think its "tarmac". i remember you because you were nice to me (others were nice too, but i forgot their names :() . thank you for your kindness and advice. we need more people like you in this world. last but not least, thank you to everyone on GMATCLUB.

If I was on AdCom and I saw someone re-taking and progressing from a low score..I would give them merit....it is usually those who get up from being knocked down through-out life that ultimately are the most successful in their persuits.

thanks for everyone's kind words.

i dont know how it works in the united states, since i only applied to canadian schools. what i saw, was that the admissions committee representative looked up my name in their database to access my scores, and she looked for the highest score, and then downloaded the report from GMAC for that particular testing. she did see all my previous 5 scores, but she took the highest one. then she took the report to the rest of the admissions comittee and then they proceeded to make a decision about whether or not to let me in.

After taking the 1st Kaplan diagnostic and really struggling, it is nice seeing a post that is encouraging. I have been searching the web all night and until now all I have found was negative comments about people getting poor scores and others "****" on their goals and dreams. I now see how much work I have in front of me in the coming months, but I see what can happen with the proper mindset and effort. I look forward to adding my own story to this post in a few months. Hopefully my future story, like yours will motivate, inspire and encourage other GMAT takers. Thanks for getting me started and best of luck with all your future endeavors.

Welcome to GMAT Club,

Not sure if you know, but Kaplan scores are about 100 points below the real GMAT scores.
You can take GMAT Prep for a more careful evaluation or use GMAT Score Estimator/Calculcator.

Good luck :)

Hi Friends,

I haven't been here in so long. I am the person who created this thread. I was feeling blue and needed a reminder of how far I've come these past few years, and funny enough, I thought of my struggle with the GMAT.

I am now graduated from one of the top MBA programs in Canada. Since my graduation, I have went to work for 2 Fortune 500 companies.

I still see quite a few threads about "failing" GMAT and getting depressed because some posters didn't achieve "X" score. I used to be one of those people. It feels silly to revive a 5 year old thread, but some things have been depressing me lately and I feel useless, unaccomplished and overall defeated. But after reading my old posts, it kinda made me smile. I hope I can make someone else smile too if they see this thread. I scored quite low on my first 5 attempts at GMAT and someone even told me that even if I got accepted to the MBA program, I would "slow my classmates down [in group work]". But hey, it didn't stop me from moving on in my life. I eventually went to do my MBA, travelled the world, worked on cool projects, and my little nightmare with GMAT's 5 attempts is now making me smile. It's the struggles that make people realize how strong they are, and forces you to deal with fear.

Thank you for making me smile again GMAT CLUB. I hope all is well with everyone.

Good to hear from you.
It must be a satisfying experience to come back and post again on this thread :)
Even I am looking forward to do the same some years down the line :)

What an insipring story! Thank you for sharing your amazing success with us!

Before my final skirmish with GMAT on January 29th, to read such an outstanding determation encouraged me to pursue my dream. After getting a miserable score (620) in my first attempt, I completely lost my hope and GMAT Club has helped me to gain my confidence again and boost my courage for a next war.

I hope I will be able to write the same story on Thrusday evening..
