I got 17 questions wrong in Quant and 12 questions wrong in verbal. However, my quant scaled score is higher, i.e. 48 in quant and 38 in verbal. How is that possible?
I would also appreciate if someone could help me in planning out my preparation. I'm weak in Critical Reasoning in Verbal and Data Sufficiency in Quant. I have to give my GMAT on 4th August.

Dear Sprihasakshi ,

Welcome to GMATClub.

Yes, it is possible. You should be happy that you were getting difficult level questions on your exam.

The final score doesn't depend upon the number of questions you got incorrect. It depends upon the level of questions you got correct.

So, 17 questions wrong in quant and Q48 indicate that you were getting many questions of 700 level correct.

Hence, be happy and study more.

Apart from the fact that you shouldn't pay (too much) attention to the number of questions answered correctly in an adaptive test, your performance in quant was actually lower than your performance in verbal.

Here it is important not to compare quant and verbal scaled scores directly. Each scaled score corresponds to a percentile, but that scale is different for quant and verbal. Your quant percentile is 71, whereas your verbal percentile is 85. In other words, you performed significantly better on your verbal than on your quant.

As suggested, counting number of rights and wrongs alone will not help you make sense of the score. So its best to let it be. Instead, focus on how to improve your understanding of the specific topics.
If you face more problems in DS, you probably do not understand the sufficiency condition very well. Here is the link to our freely available DS book https://www.veritasprep.com/gmat/
(One of the 12 GMAT prep course lessons is DS)
Go through the entire book and I think most of your issues will be resolved.

For CR, I suggest you to go through our CR book, which explains in detail how to handle each question type. We also have many CR posts on our blog: https://www.veritasprep.com/blog/catego ... +reasoning
