Amen to that. I am an avid Palm fan myself, but it is high time for a new OS. They invented the touchscreen/downloadable app model that Apple gets all the credit for. I'm just wondering whether Palm finally introduce wifi like everybody else. If so, I will definitely spring for one of these next time around.

I was really disappointed that the Foleo didn't take off, but I think Palm was once again ahead of its time.

the good news is, the Palm Pre does have GPS and Wi-Fi, as well as 3G. I just hope picking Sprint as the launch partner isn't their downfall.

Kry - what kind of data plan do you have for your palm centro? I am trying to find a smartphone that syncs with outlook with the cheapest data plan. Seems like a myth right now

Looks like the qwerty keyboard opens up only in the potrait mode on the Pre. Won't it be too small to touch type?
I like the wireless charger!

I use the same plan everyone has (except for iPhone) for their smart phone with AT&T. $30 unlimited data. the Palm Centro works like a charm right now because I'm only using it as my PDA and phone and some minimal email/browsing when necessary. can't wait to get my hands on the Pre.

the keyboard on a phone will probably never allow "touch typing", if you mean typing like on a laptop keyboard. But the portrait mode keyboard seems like it'll be about the size of a Treo, maybe smaller, but definitely bigger than the Centro. Just my guess.

You weren't the only one to love the new phone.

Well, not as good as a laptop but something akin to either the G1 or Experia. That probably won't happen with the Palm given its size.

So far, I found the t-mobile data plan the cheapest ($20 for data alone) but their service is iffy while Verizon has great coverage but is expensive too. AT&T seems to be right in between them.

Can the Palm sync with outlook over 3G and/or Wifi?

yup, induction charging. You can supposedly rest it on the charger and still use the functions (watch a movie or surf the web).

Damn, the Sprint partnership is a deal-breaker for me. I had Sprint before, and I will never use them again. Hopefully after a few months it will become available on Verizon. I love the slide-out keyboard though. I bet that Apple will outfit the next iPhone with the same thing.

In case anyone hasn't seen Gizmodo's more extensive PREview yet (:P):

https://i.gizmodo.com/5126702/palm-pre-p ... ly-amazing

I don't know...I am actually a Palm fan as well (owned a Treo 600 & 680 over the course of ~5 years), but honestly it's going to be hard to pull me away from my iPhone now. After using a G1 and BB Storm, I have come to appreciate the tightly integrated software + hardware of the iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is far from perfect (copy & paste, crappy battery life, GPS is pretty slow, still prefer the Treo keyboard, etc.), but I think it's greatest advantage is in the incredibly fluid and intuitive experience it provides the user.

Yeah, admittedly I bought an iPod Touch a few days ago, because I really wanted a device with wifi, which my Centro doesn't have. I can't understand why Palm would neglect to include wifi in its phones, but I think their products are getting progressively better. If Palm can integrate a good music player with a touchscreen phone/wifi device, I think the iPhone will have a serious competitor. I know I would opt to buy it rather than fill my pockets with a bulky phone AND an mp3 player. I will never rely on a phone that only has touch screen, because dealing with a smudgy, imprecise keyboard is just to much of a pain in the ass, no matter how smooth the interface is. I know that anybody who has to type out a lot of texts/emails will agree that it just isn't worth the trouble. I just think having the option of using either a keyboard or touchscreen is the best way to go.

It does look like the WebOS will give a similar fluid and intuitive experience that iPhone gives, if not more (I love the integrated everything feature - Synergy). Of course, we'll have to see if it's as good as promised later (thanks for the link TL!), but if it's as good as most reviewers are saying it is, I think we have an iPhone serious competitor (one that G1 and Storm couldn't manage to do) and an alternative for people like me who will NOT buy an iPhone because of the lack of a keyboard. Sorry, touch-screen typing just doesn't work for me, and I've tried.

Because Sprint is going down too, and probably the only carrier that was willing to sign this deal at least until the Pre takes off.

Now all of us are wondering when we'll ever get the Pre on AT&T or Verizon.

I just found out what powers this phone - definitely interests me a lot more now. It's not always that you get to use what you work on :)

let's all pray this phone becomes a hit and Palm decide to cash in so they will open the phone to other carriers...(like what happened to MotoQ or Moto Razor)
