I think this is a high-quality question and I don't agree with the explanation. for 2nd option
it should be if
because the team wins or ties matches if lous jr doesnt play.

Your reasoning is incorrect because "if" would mean Louis Jr.'s absence guarantees a tie, but the statement only sets a necessary condition: a tie happens only if Louis Jr. hasn't played, not that his absence always leads to a tie.

1st option is quicker to get to by process of elimination.

For the 2nd option:

Let, A = matches never end in a tie, and B = when L plays.

The question says, matches between Fancy Club and Dare Devil never end in a tie whenever Louis Jr. plays for Fancy Club.
This can be rewritten as: A happens whenever B happens.
In a Venn diagram, this can be shown as A being the bigger circle, and B being a smaller circle inside A.
This can be also be denoted as: If B happens, then A happens.

The question statement is: Matches between Fancy Club and Dare Devil end in a tie __2__ Louis Jr. has not played for Fancy Club in those matches.
Question can be restated as, A doesn't happen ____ B doesn't happen.

We already have: if B happens, then A happens.
= If A doesn't happen, then B doesn't happen.
= A doesn't happen only if B doesn't happen.

Answer: Only if.
