Hey All, I am thinking of applying in Round 1/2 of 2016 and need help narrowing my target list! I figure the best way to go about this is to start at the bottom (safety schools) and work my way up. Below is a list of my stats and schools that I plan on applying to. Please let me know about what safety schools would be a good fit. Thanks! Work Exp at time of application: (Note: every job after the campaign is in the same policy area and is consistent with my post-MBA goals). .5 months as a Project Manager {political appointee} at an elite Federal Agency (Dept. of State, Treasury, White House) 1.5 Years as a Confidential Assistant {political appointee} at a small Federal Agency. 1.5 years months at a niche political policy shop (9 months as a Research Coordinator, 9 months as Deputy Director). .5 months as a Field Organizer on a Presidential campaign in a key swing state (Ohio, Florida) Education: School: Top 50 in the Big Ten (Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan) Major (2): English and History Minor: Humanities minor GPA: 3.43 GMAT : 730 (47V, 44Q) EC: launching a college admissions application mentorship program for inner city students 1 year as a essay coach for inner city students 3 years on the board of directors for my city college alumni organization Post-MBA: I want to apply my policy background to Wall St. and institutional investing (Very logical, very clear connection) Dream Schools: HBS Wharton Kellogg Booth Colombia Safety/Target Schools: Darden? NYU? Emory? Georgetown? Johnson? Ross? Tepper? Other?

From what I gather, you're looking to make a move from policy to finance/banking. I would think you'd want a school that has strong finance recruiting (assuming you're looking into NYC post-MBA) coupled with people who also have some similar backgrounds and that has a culture that fits you. For finance/your background, I'd look into Darden, Yale, Duke, Georgetown. If you liked your time at Michigan and want to go back, Ross is a great school as well. Tepper may be an interesting school to look into as well. as they have very strong quant/finance too. That doesn't narrow down your list much but gives you schools to consider; attend the information sessions this summer, connect with current students to find others who have made a similar switch to yours and can speak to how making that move is really done
