B. -2

C. -2/3

D. 2/3

E. 2

Two methods
1) Substitute value of x from one equation into other OR
2) Solve them simultaneously by making coefficients of one variable the same in both equations

Second equation says
x = -2

i.e. y = 6/3 = 2

Solution

Given:
• 4x + 3y = -2 ……. (1)
• 3x + 6 = 0 ………. (2)

To find:
• The value of y

Approach and Working:
• From equation (2), we get, 3x = -6
o Implies, x = -2
• Substituting this in equation (1), we get,
o 4(-2) + 3y = -2
o Implies, 3y = 6
• Thus, the value of y = 2

Hence, the correct answer is option E.

B. -2

C. -2/3

D. 2/3

E. 2

Solving for x, we have:

3x + 6 = 0

3x = -6

x = -2

Substituting, we have:

4(-2) + 3y = -2

3y = 6

y = 2
