(1) $$a^{2b} = 2^4$$

(2) $$ab = 2^2$$

Question: what is the value of $$(8a^{6b} − 2) = 8(a^b)^6-2$$?

To answer this question we only need $$a^b$$

Statement 1: $$a^{2b} = 2^4$$

i.e. $$(a^b)^2 = 16$$

i.e. $$(a^b) = +4 or -4$$ hence

BUT $$8(a^b)^6-2 = 8*4^6-2$$

SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: $$ab = 2^2$$

i.e. a*b = 4
i.e. a=1 and b=4 or a=4 and b=1 hence $$a^b$$ will have multple values hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
