If \(a*b = −8\), what is the value of \(a + b\)?


Are You Up For the Challenge: 700 Level Questions
(1) \(a − b = 6\)
possibilities are a=2 , b=-4 answer equals -2
a=4,b=-2 yields answer equalling to 2

Clearly insufficient

(2) \(a*b^2 = 32\)
b=-4 and a=2 answer equals -2
only one possibility

Clearly sufficient

Therefore IMO B
