(I'm not a math maven. This one is important.)

For all convex polyhedrons (3-D solids with flat faces, straight edges, and pointed corners):

The number of vertices and faces, together, is exactly two more than the number of edges.

The formula is typically written this way:
V - E + F = 2

I write it this way:
V + F - E = 2

Here, given, V = 4, F = 4

So the number of edges of the pyramid is

V + F - E = 2
4 + 4 - E = 2
8 - 2 = E
E = 6

The pyramid has six edges.
