9 side for 3 Triangle => first cut diagonally and take one triangle and cut half
12 Sides for 3 rectangles => Cut 3 parallel rectangles
12 sides for 4 triangles => when cutting the rectangle both diagonally we have 4 triangles
11 Sides => Cut one in the shape of a trapezoid, then cut the remaining in the shape of a triangle and the remaining is a rectangle

Just a little trick I use to answer such questions where trial and error is involved.
Very easily I could figure out by making 2 horizontal or 2 vertical lines so 9 and 12 is def in the answer.
I browsed thru answer options and saw none of the options showing 1 and 3 only.
Hence I selected option E which says 1 ,2 and 3.
P.S : I did this here since I wasnt able to figure out when will it have 11 edges in the apt amount of time.
