Re: If AB=3, BC=6, CD=7 and DE=9, what are the coordinates of point E in [#permalink]
Quote:

If AB=3, BC=6, CD=7 and DE=9, what are the coordinates of point E in the figure above?

Drop a perpendicular from point A to DE, where line from A intersects DE at F.
CD = AF +BA
7= AF +3
AF =4

Y axis of the line = -1 + (-4) = -5
Only option with -5 as Y axis coordinate is C - Correct answer.

Please drop a kudos if you liked the solution. Cheers :)

A = (2, -1)
Move up by 3 get B = (2, 2)
Move left by 6 get C = (-4, 2)
Move down by 7 get D = (-4, -5)
Move right by 9 get E = (5, -5) Ans = C

A. (−8,8)
B. (4,−4)
C. (5,−5)
D. (2,−2)
E. (−4,4)

IMO C, To get x coordinates of E we need to add A's x coordinates distance hence its 5 .

i.e, 2+(9-6) = 5

So IMO C
