Another approach is to test a certain case.

ASIDE: Keep in mind that increasing a number by 200% is the SAME as multiplying that number by 3.

So, if the original triangle has measurements 1-1-√2, then the enlarged triangle has measurements 3-3-3√2

Area of original triangle = (base)(height)/2 = (1)(1)/2 = 0.5
Area of enlarged triangle = (base)(height)/2 = (3)(3)/2 = 4.5

Percent increase = (100)(new - old)/old = (100)(4.5 - 0.5)/0.5
= (100)(4)/(0.5)
= 400/0.5
= 800%

Answer: D
