If it takes Steve 6 hours to tile a floor and Cheryl 4 hours to tile the same floor, how long would it take both Steve and Cheryl to tile the floor if they worked together?

A. 2 hours 12 minutes
B. 2 hours 24 minutes
C. 3 hours
D. 3 hours 12 minutes
E. 10 hours B

Let the total work be 12 (LCM of 6 & 4 )

Efficiency of Steve is 2 & Efficiency of Cheryl is 3

Combined efficiency of Steve and Cheryl is 5

Time required to complete the work is 12/5 = 2&2/5 or 2 hours 24 minutes, Answer must be (B)

Let work be 24 units.

S does 4 units each hour and C does 6 units. Together they do 10 units per hour.

First they will take 2 hours to complete 20 units. For the remaining 4 units, it will take 1/4th of the hour. That is 24 more minutes.

So in total 2 hours 24 minutes.

hence B
