If Jason was 34 years old 8 years ago and Lester was 27 years old 5 years ago, what was the average (arithmetic mean) of their ages x years ago?

A. x + 37
B. 37 – x
C. 61/2 + x
D. 32 – x
E. 35 + x

Since Jason was 34 years old, 8 years ago, his current age is 42
Similarly, sine Lester was 27 years old, 5 years ago, his current age is 32.

Hence, the average of their ages is \(\frac{42+32}{2}\) or 37.

Hence, their average(x years ago) was 37-x(Option B)

Today Hason = 42 and Lester = 32
Avg Age = 37

X year ago
Avg Age = 37-x
