The correct answer is (B) because the passage directly demonstrates that the exact same experience—whether quiet rest or dangerous excitement—becomes enjoyable specifically because of the state that preceded it. Since overstimulation makes quiet pleasant and boredom makes excitement pleasant, a person's evaluation of a situation depends on their recent prior exposure to stimulation rather than any fixed quality of the event itself.
