Question : what is the area of the triangle shown in the figure?

We already know the base of the triangle is 8 units long as the line QR is parallel to X axis and X-coordinate of R is 8
So, we only need the Y- coordinate of point P

STatement 1: P has coordinates (6, 5).

Now, we have Y-coordinate of P hence

SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: RP has a slope of -3/2.
i.e. P may be anywhere on the line with slope -3/2 and passing through (8,2) hence Y-coordinate of P is unknown hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: option A

The line QR is parallel to X- axis. So the length of QR is 8 ( x coordinate of R). To find the area, we need the height of the triangle. Height of the triangle will be perpendicular distance between point P and base QR.
1. P(6,5)
We can find the height of the triangle. 5-2 = 3. Now we can find the area of the triangle. So, the possible answers are A or D
2. RP has a slope of -3/2, but point P can be anywhere. so the triangle can be either an acute angled triangle or right angle or obtuse angled triangle. so the second condition is not sufficient to answer.

The answer is A
