If the letters in the table above represent one of the numbers 1, 2, or 3 such that each of these
numbers occurs only once in each row and in each column, what is the value of a?
(1) e + i = 6
(2) b + c + d + g = 6 ?

I do not understand why statemt 1 is true. Please help me
