From question stem, we can reduce the equation to x = 2y.

From statement 1:

x+y = 30
3y = 30.
y = 10.
Sufficient.

From statement 2:

3x = 60.
x = 20.
20 = 2y or y = 10.
Sufficient.

D is the answer.

Just using the question itself, we may find that 3x=6y then x=2y.

(1) x + y = 30 ==> x = 30-y 30-y = 2y ==> y = 10 (Sufficient)

(2) 3x=60 ==> x = 20 ==> 20 = 2y ==> y = 10 (Sufficient)

Correct me if I have a flaw in the explanation.

If x/6 = y/3, is y = 10?

(1) x + y = 30
(2) 3x = 60

From question, x = 2y

1. 3y = 30. y=10. Yes, y=10.
Sufficient.

2. x = 20, so yes, y=10.
Sufficient.
