Given, 2a = 3b = 1
i.e. a = 1/2 and b = 1/3
i.e. a+b = 1/2 + 1/3 = 5/6

Given: 2a = 1
Divide both sides by 2 to get: a = 1/2
Given: 3b = 1
Divide both sides by 3 to get: b = 1/3
Given: x(a + b) = y
Substitute to get: x(1/2 + 1/3) = y
Rewrite with common denominators: x(3/6 + 2/6) = y
Simplify: (x)(5/6) = y
Divide both sides by x to get: 5/6 = y/x
Answer: D

\(2a = 3b = 1\)
So, \(a = \frac{1}{2}\) & \(b = \frac{1}{3}\)
\(x(a + b) = y\)
Or, \(x ( \frac{1}{2} + \frac{1}{3}) = y\)
Or, \(5x/6 = y\)
Hence, \(\frac{y}{x} = \frac{5}{6}\), Answer must be (D)
