(1) x(x + 1) is a multiple of 12.
(2) x^2 + x is divisible by 3 and 4.

x^2 + x = x(x + 1), so (1), (2) are the same.
Multiple of 12 can be 0, 12, 24,...
x = 0 --> 0*(0+1) is a multiple of 12 --> 0 is not an odd integer.
But x = 3 --> 3*(3+1) is a multiple of 12 --> 3 is an odd integer.
