Nope essays are not another round, you would be interviewed if shortlisted for essays.
But you need to submit essays before the interview.

you might have received payment confirmation message from IIMA. Check for that. Payment happens only after you submit the application.

how does this work? like do they send out the invites in waves? or all invites go together for R1 applicants?

Yes, they send out in one go. Last year for R2 or R3, they sent them out earlier and the essay submission deadline (IIMA) was made very close to the ISB and IIMC deadlines. Hence, expect a few surprises later on and start preparing your essays and for interview in advance.

Last year, it was about why you want to go for an MBA in these challenging times? For R2, this changed to how do you handle volatile situations?
The other two essays- ’how you’ll add value to your peers and professors’ and ’Additional info’ remained the same.

Anything under the sun is open! Few IIMs even asked concepts from your undergrad subjects. By and large, the IIMs are looking for how informed your are and do you have an opinion around what’s going on in the world. Hence, it is important so start prepping now.

Correct me if m wrong but that’s what I have heard from those who appeared in interviews. And this is in addition to usual questions on why MBA, why now, why IIMA, strength and weaknesses and hobbies
