1. No info on number of girls and no.of boyz . so mere average doesnt give you the class average Insufficient

2. Same as above Insufficeint.

1+2>>we have here avg height of boys and girls but we dont know the total number of boys and girls to calculate the complete average,

Insufficient.

Solution: To determine the average (arithmetic mean) height per pupil, we need the heights of all people or mean height of girls & boys and their ratio.

Statement 1: The average (arithmetic mean) height of the girls in the class is 61 inches
As we don't know the average height of boys, this statement alone is insufficient

Statement 2: The average (arithmetic mean) height of the boys in the class is 64 inches
As we don't know the average height of girls, this statement alone is insufficient

Combining 1 & 2, still we don't know the exact number of boys and girls or their ratio, we can't determine the average of the group.

If there was any problem which was screaming the need for ratio , this would have been the very problem the person should see

Statement 1 tells us the average height of girls in class
We don't have any info on boys in the class So clearly insufficient

Statement 2 tells us the average height of boys in class
We don't have any info on girls in the class So clearly insufficient

combining both statements we still don't have any information on number of boys and girls individually or even a ratio of number of boys to number of girls

So Correct Answer - E

In this question we do have the average height of girls and boys but we do not have the number of boys and Girls so average cannot be calculated.
