In class of 260 students, each student needs to choose between the three extra subject (i.e IT, Hindi and Sanskrit) offered along with the course. The students that choose each of these subjects are 160, 130, 110. The number of students who choose more than one of the three is 40% more than the number of students who choose all the three subjects If there are no students who choose none of the 3 subjects, how many students study all the three subjects?

A. 40
B. 50
C. 60
D. 80
E. 100

Are You Up For the Challenge: 700 Level Questions
Students who choose all = x
Students who choose more than 1 subject = 1.4x
ie. Students who choose exactly 2 subjects = 1.4x - x = 0.4x

Total Students = 260 = 160+130+110 - 0.4x - 2*x

i.e. 2.4x = 140
i.e. x = 58.33

Best Option is C but this is not acceptable answer.

Bunuel There is some mistake of some number. If 110 is changed to 114 then answer will be option C
Fixed. Is should have read 280 students, instead of 260.

Are You Up For the Challenge: 700 Level Questions
Given:
1. In class of 280 students, each student needs to choose between the three extra subject (i.e IT, Hindi and Sanskrit) offered along with the course.
2. The students that choose each of these subjects are 160, 130, 110.
3. The number of students who choose more than one of the three is 40% more than the number of students who choose all the three subjects

Asked: If there are no students who choose none of the 3 subjects, how many students study all the three subjects?

1. In class of 280 students, each student needs to choose between the three extra subject (i.e IT, Hindi and Sanskrit) offered along with the course.
2. The students that choose each of these subjects are 160, 130, 110.
4. There are no students who choose none of the 3 subjects.
160 + 130 -A - x+ 110 - B-C-x = 280
400 - (A+B+C) - 2x = 280
(A+B+C) + 2x = 120 (1)

3. The number of students who choose more than one of the three is 40% more than the number of students who choose all the three subjects
A + B + C + x = 140%x = 1.4x
A + B + C = .4x (2)

Putting value of A+B+C from (2) in (1)
2.4x = 120 ; x = 50

Number of students study all the three subjects = x = 50

IMO B
