Sorry, I couldn't get this in spite of my best efforts. How  did we simplify \(\frac{8!}{2!}* \frac{1}{2}\) to get \(7!2!\) What am I missing? Thank you.­­­

You are missing the point. The word "LOCKDOWN" can be arranged in 8!/2! ways. In half of those arrangements, C will be ahead of D, and in the other half, D will be ahead of C. That's it. Thus, the answer is 1/2*8!/2! = 7!2!.

Answer: D.
