In the xy–coordinate plane, a line segment is drawn to join the points A (2, 1) and C(4, 3). If point B lies on line segment AC, is AB = BC?

(1) The x-coordinate of point B is 3
(2) The y-coordinate of point B is 2

Easy if you draw/visualise:

We know that B is on AC.

(1) fixes x-coordinate of point B (on blue line). B must be on the intersection of AC (red segment) and blue line. So, B is fixed. We can find it's y-coordinate and answer whether AB = BC. Sufficient.

(1) fixes y-coordinate of point B (on green line). B must be on the intersection of AC (red segment) and geen line. So, B is fixed. We can find it's x-coordinate and answer whether AB = BC. Sufficient.

Answer: D.
