Congrats to everyone who is admitted. I have a quick question:

In the career Essay (500 words), Strength Essay (400 Words) and Accomplishment Essay(400 words), I am exceeding the word limit by less than 10%, is it considered reasonable or should strictly follow the word limit?

Rest of the 4 essays are within the word limit.

Any thoughts guys?

It is ok, I had most of my essays reaching the extra 10% word limits.

Thanks for the reply friend, I am going to file my app in a week, can you share your profile? Even my GMAT score is not stellar; I got 700, 5 in second attempt.

There is a word count on the INSEAD form, it will tell you that you're over even if you're over by just 1 word. I think you need to remain within the Word Count.

I contacted INSEAD about this very question - they advised to "please keep to 5% of the word limit at the most."

Honestly, 10% over the word limit is definitely not best practice.

You can go over the word limit on some essays, but stick to 5% max. I balanced it out over all essays actually, sometimes going over by a few %, sometimes staying below the word limit by a few %.

One of the challenges of an MBA application is to write compelling essays within the word limit. If you can't make your application strong enough while staying within the word limit, your essays aren't as good yet as they could be. Why would you need the extra words while most other people don't?

read the question carefully...if it says around "400 words approximately" then it's okay to go +10% on some of the essays. The definition of "approximately" is very subjective......if you need to you can go +10% max on some of the essays but you should be under 5% for the majority. Be reasonable and you should be fine.

If it says 250 words (I believe these are the job essays), I wouldn't exceed the word count period.

Just my 2cents

here are my 2 cents - I would really go beyond the work limit, only when I have something really compelling to convey. All my essays were 10% more word count, but I was quite sure that the reader would get some new info about me, and that its really worth those extra words. At the end of the day, if its an interesting essay, the reader will not mind spendng that extra seconds to complete reading the essay.

Guys - I got the awaited call today - I am in.

Still thinking whether to start in Fonty or here in SGP.

People based in SGP want to meet for a drink or two this weekend?

I have quick questions from all the guys who have been admitted. In the weakness question did you put a true character weakness such as impatient, arrogant etc etc or a superficial weakness such as time management or inability to say no etc etc.

I am getting conflicting advice and would like an opinion.

Good morning, everyone.

Can someone who has been admitted kindly inform me how many R1 admits you see in mba connect? Also, can you let me know how many of them are Americans, Chinese or Japanese? If you can also give me the breakdown between M/F that would be great!

Thanks a lot.

Hi,
I am not sure of the number of admits
Did a quick check on the student groups on the mbaconnect site and so far 30 ppl have joined 11D groups related to starting in fonty /spore ... i guess its still early days to be taking a headcount from the site !
