Interview Debrief
M done with both my interviews..phew..now begins the long long wait
First interviewer was in his 40s…CEO of a start-up, there were many alterations to the actual timings. The venue was the coffee shop of a 5* hotel.
The interviewer was dressed in casuals while I was suited up.
Started off by telling me about himself and about INSEAD. Then he asked me the usual stuff viz. why MBA, why INSEAD..grilled me quite a bit on why MBA as I represent a niche segment. Told me to tell him ‘my story’ with details about events which have ‘shaped me’. Asked about international experience and how do I plan to finance my MBA.
We went into a lil detail about my post-mba plans. He also tried to see how serious I was about INSEAD..tried to convince me to go for a US B-school or an Indian B-school. We ended on a friendly note and I did ask him my positive and negative points. The whole interview lasted for 1.5 hrs and he seemed quite positive about me
The second interview was a dream…Director of a MNC..she was in her mid 30s..we met at the coffee shop of a 5* hotel.
She was dressed in semi-formals while I was (u guessed it!) suited up…Barney Stinson and Jon Hamm take a bow!!
She asked me the usual Why questions, which were never direct but camouflaged. She told me a little about INSEAD and about her present role. We chatted a bit about our common industry-the challenges and opportunities. She asked me whether I have applied or plan to apply to other programmes. Asked me how do I plan to finance my MBA, future after mba etc. Lasted for about an hour, she ended by saying, she was really impressed with me
Here is my two cents-Be dressed in formals-suit up preferably. Reach 15 mins early and recce the place so that u sit in the spot most comfortable for u. Drink some water. When asked order a coffee..will keep u on ur toes..If the interviewer is not asking questions about ur strengths or experiences which u wud like to mention then DO SLIP THEM IN at the first opportunity. Do ur homework on the interviewers..shows ur serious and well prepared. Don’t speak too much for the first 5-10 mins..wait to gauge the interviewer-whether he is the aggressive sorts or laidback, practical or idealistic-u might want to tweak ur answers a lil to make them more ‘appealing’!!The last but not the least-smile,keep calm and be urself!!
All the best!!!
