Applying for INSEAD MiM and I am 23 years of age as of now, I am retaking the GMAT soon in a month. Scored a 460 on the official after a more than year of preparation and trying again.

Education

I graduated from D.G. Ruparel College, Mumbai University, with a Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) degree in 2020.
I received a GPA of 8.33/10

Work Experience

I have less than a year of full-time work experience as an MDP Associate at Morningstar India. In this role, I have gained experience in conducting in-depth research and analysis on venture capital deals and funding and providing this information on the front-end platform of Pitchbook Data part of Morningstar

Internship Experience

I have 3 internships in relevant fields:

Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Intern at Nestle India: In this role, I was responsible for benchmarking projects for the CSR department. I also conducted research and analysis on CSR projects in the South India that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I created a report on the benchmarking projects, which compared and evaluated sustainability projects implemented by different companies.
Category Management Intern at Infra. Market: In this role, I updated product data using Excel to create a database for the upcoming E-Commerce platform of the company. I also worked with the Founder's Strategy Team to understand the B2C segment and create extremely customer-centric databases. I worked as a team member in the sole E-Commerce Catalogues Operations team in India.
Financial Services/Customer Acquisition Intern at IIFL Securities: In this role, I completed the project on “Financial Management”, along with MBA Candidates and gained insights on the Indian stock market. I also gained knowledge about Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management for the clients at IIFL. I acquired new customers to open Demat Accounts on IIFL Securities Brokerage Platform. I worked with InvestorQ (IIFL subsidiary app) developers to address bugs and reviewing the app in the Alpha and Beta Phase.

International Exposure

I have participated in two international programs:

* Imperial College London Summer School (remote): In this program, I learned complex strategic concepts and frameworks and their impact on business. I also gained insight into key skills and analytical frameworks for effective consulting, consulting projects and delivering value. I learned effective communication and collaborated with the international classmates to work on case studies.
* Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR): In this program, I attended the HPAIR Conference remotely as an Indian delegate selected from a pool of 9100 applications by the Harvard team. I got the opportunity to hear from former Heads of State in Asia, Fortune 500 business executives, renowned celebrities, and thought leaders driving high impact in the social sector. I engaged with delegates and leaders from 61 countries.

I have held leadership positions in two organizations:

* School Moderator, GMAT Club, MiM Forum: In this role, I kept the thread/chat group updated with events, deadlines, materials etc., kept the decision tracker updated, and represented GMAT Club in interacting with admissions committees.

2021-2023 – Indian Railways : Role: Executive Signal & Telecom Engineer, Projects
• Led two teams of 10 engineers and technicians to execute railway signalling projects.
• Managed four different brownfield mainline signalling projects with a Capex spending of $34.5m in 2 years.

Hi karthikuppu hope this finds you well. I am an INSEAD alum and ex-admissions interviewer for MBA for 3+ years.

It's fascinating to see how you've transitioned from a teaching career to the industry and gained a diverse range of experiences over the past 7 years. Your specific industry focus is advantageous, as the companies you mention actively seek talent with specialized knowledge and skills from INSEAD. INSEAD has a solid feeder pipeline into Siemens especially with Siemens CEO track being the most popular among engineers. With the right networking approach, you can leverage this advantage effectively.

Considering your age, an executive MBA program might be more suitable for you. However, since 7+ years of experience is relatively less for an average executive MBA student at INSEAD, I strongly recommend reaching out directly to the school admissions offices. It is not uncommon to see 34-35 year olds in INSEAD MBA cohorts but yes the adcom will have set higher standards for evaluating older applicants. A solid industry specific knowledge, and learning agility is non-negotiable. Aim for a high GMAT score.

Setting up calls with the INSEAD office will allow you to discuss your profile and obtain firsthand feedback. INSEAD's point of contacts can help you determine the right program to apply for. If you are inclined towards the 1-year full time MBA, focus on articulating why it's your preferred choice (e.g., full immersion, researching European careers, career treks, etc.).

Hello everyone,

Below is a brief of my profile. Need your inputs on suitability of my GMAT score and profile for Insead.

GMAT: 720(93%) Q:47(53%), V:41(93%), IR:5 (53%).
Indian Male, Engineering undergrad, 9+ years of experience in Finance (Treasury & Corporate Finance) and Entrepreneurship.

7.5 years of work experience across 3 large MNC pharmaceutical companies. Lead the Treasury department with a, exposure of $2 Bn dollars, wroked with cross sectional teams across 15+ countries in managing. Youngest in the company histroy to be made head of treasury. Worked with the CEO, CFO, and Business heads on large strategy projects like Capital reaalocation, M&A.

1.5 years of entrepreneurship experience. Took the MVP+ from 0 to 1 in a span of 1 years. Lead a team of 10 people across domains. Launched and broke even in the first year.

Looking to move into management consulting post MBA. I would be happy to provide any further details. Keen to understand my chances and if my score on quant is going to be a problem.

That should be ok but don't let the GMAT be your overriding factor here. You are already on the higher side of experience. Retake the test by all means, and get a higher score if you feel you can, but seeing that the app is just ~1 month away, focus on the app as well. Like we had noted earlier, crafting your story, given the changes in your work profile (and in your post-MBA goals too) will be important.

Please with my work , as started working as a Business Consultant for these Small and Medium Scale Industries helping them take better decisions using Data Science and Data Visualization. (2016- 2021)
Job 3 : Working with an education startup : role (Business development and Educator) (2021-present)

Extra Curriculars in Undergrad
1. Member of the organizing team of the student cultural fest in the college.
2. Head of the departmental tech fest .

Post MBA Goals:

- Interesting profile. You had a natural progression from Job 1 to 2, but Job 3 is a pivot. While your versatility across roles is good, you will need to show the transferable skills to get into consulting.
- Your ECA is pretty good and gives you an advantage. Have you spent any time in a rural area as well in your current role?
- You have 10+ years of experience and (from what you've posted) it seems like not much international experience. That will make the going a bit hard at INSEAD.
- Belonging to an over-represented pool is not your key challenge. If you can get a solid GMAT (740+) you can aim for some good options in Europe, though not sure if INSEAD will be the best fit.

As per the questions you have asked :

1. Internal Exposure :While I was working with TCS (Tata Consultancy Services ) as a software engineer I was working for an International Account where I had an opportunity to work with an international client.
2. Time in Rural Areas : Yes, I have spent time in rural areas where i helped a small scale industry to scale up their production , improve the marketing and help to gain more client in the near by cities thus helping them expand their business . In the present role also I am in the team which over see how to spread the acceptance and usage of this EdTech platform in the rural areas.

With your current understanding of my profile, what would you recommend ? Is there a very low chances to get into INSEAD and also to which colleges I should focus on (HEC etc ) also can you please suggest colleges in AISA (NUS-Singapore etc). Though I want to go in consulting post my MBA but I am very much open to other roles in Supply Chain Management etc.

Thanks for your response. #1 will not qualify as international experience, only as international exposure. #2 is certainly good and adds to your profile. In terms of schools, it's hard to definitely comment without a score, but assuming a score of ~720, you could look at HEC, IESE, Oxford (in Europe/UK), and IIMC/IIMA in the Asian region. NUS might be harder given the higher age and experience.

5 years experience in Assurance Audit in big4.

I’m an ACCA ( UK equivalent of US CPA) with a BSc in applied accounting and finance (lower second class) (lower second because of exemption obtained for the bachelors based on my ACCA) with a gmat of 715+ ( to be given) wondering if I can get into M7. Working as an assistant manager in audit in big4 in the middle east.

YOE:
1.5 years in big4 audit

2 years in a T2 audit

2 years in a T2 consulting firm

- Have been awarded the tech lead award at my firm (automated several hectic reports at national level).

- Team lead for my firm (15+ employees).

- Coaching new joiners regarding their careers.

- Founder of an ecommerce store for local region (raised round 1 investment)

- Started my own ecommerce journey during covid employing more than 10 people.

- Have organized a group of 50+ finance professionals from ACCA background in Saudi Arabia to hold qurterly meetings regarding finance updates, economic upates etc.

Your career demonstrates a solid foundation and consistent growth trajectory. Your academic record isn't entirely clear (for example your GPA, college pedigree), highlighting your high academic potential will undoubtedly strengthen your case. The audit sector and audit functions in general aren't primary feeders for top MBA programs due to the highly competitive nature of the industry. It is therefore, I see a lot of potential in shedding more light on the type of consulting projects you were involved with during your last job.

GMAT
Given your demographic, your projected GMAT score seems relatively low for an M7 school. Competition will be fierce, so a high GMAT score will be necessary to compete.

Now about your goals:
While your focus during your recent consulting projects isn't obvious, if private equity or venture capital is a new area for you, here is my perspective. You can demonstrate your motivation to grow professionally by, for example, interning, participating in projects, or shadowing industry leaders in entry-level positions within PE /VC (having some prior experience adds a lot of value). Even if you don't have much experience in this area, showcasing your willingness to go the extra mile significantly bolsters the credibility of your aspirations.

At the same time, practicality is important. For example, let's say you're aiming for PE. In this case, it's imperative that you demonstrate your intimate knowledge of the current state of the PE industry in the geographic region you're targeting and, if applicable, present your network in this area. To illustrate, recent shifts in deal-making and fundraising due to interest rate increases, inflation, and geopolitical events, including the conflict in Ukraine, have had a significant impact on the PE industry, affecting both recruitment and funding of leveraged transactions. As a result, business schools expect a realistic assessment of how your background can strategically position you in the PE industry, specifically for a particular sector or region.

In addition, transitioning into a Tier 1 consulting role can serve as a viable path for eventual entry into IB/PE, especially after you have established solid credibility in a new region.

Thorough research and a well-structured plan outlining your path to achieving your goals will undoubtedly prove critical to standing out from the crowd and ensuring your success.

Overall, I see much potential in your profile, but you must connect the dots to present a strong case to the top B Schools.

You are also a strong candidate for Top European/EU schools such as INSEAD , HEC and LBS.

I am preparing for GMAT now and I am planning to take exam in next 3-4 months
My profile is
Class 10 : 85.85% (west Bengal board)
Class 12: 84% (West Bengal board)
Graduation : 45.45% ( Calcutta University)
1st MBA : 71% ( Globsyn Business School collaboration with Malaysia University of Science and Technology)

I have done some certification course like Financial modelling, Financial analysis, credit underwriting from Udemy

Target GMAT score 720+

*During 1st MBA I was active volunteer of my college Ngo and serve to my society
* Arranged different program in my MBA colleges

Work ex :
1. Working in AML field for last 2.5 year in US Mortgage Company. Handled different project like marketing campaign, process automation, new process development and handled a team of 20 people from Us. I have trained 10+ trainees under me. Interacting with US client daily basis to help them to get thei dream home

2. Done internship in Forex market ( Technical and Fundal analysis)

3. 15 days live project in customer diligence in Spencer's

I know my red flag is graduation marks. But I am planning to do 2nd MBA from a top tire school.

You are relatively less experienced for 1 year MBA like INSEAD or a 2-year MBA in the US, however, if you give yourself some more time to enhance your profile for a top-tier MBA abroad you could grab projects and professional opportunities that add a new dimension to your portfolio. The profile enhancement could show as a take-off point in your career graph depending on your goals. For example, in a strategic role in a startup or in consulting where you get hands-on experience in the building blocks of businesses, negotiate an international assignment, or get into beginner roles in an industry you want to break into post-MBA. Could you please evaluate my profile, I have yet to take GMAT:

Worked as a lead engineer (do not have anyone reporting to me) as part of the data engineering division of the product analytics team for various Data Science stakeholders. Played an architect and mentor role for juniors in the team as well. Had some major achievements such as severe process optimization and the implementation of new architecture standards. Worked as a senior engineer on the credit risk strategy team, supporting several reporting and data science use cases. Had some major achievements such as the implementation of a new framework by anticipating stakeholder needs which resulted in saving 40 man hours in the team.

4. Business Technology Solutions Associate Consultant-> ZS (04/19-07/21):
Worked as a team lead for several pharmaceutical clients, and was involved in end-to-end project management and technical implementations. I had 3-5 members reporting to me which varied from an intern, contractors, and FTEs. Had some major achievements which involved redesigning an already live project from scratch to deal with performance issues which resulted in a foreseeable overhead cost of 200K USD. Demonstrated tools capabilities which resulted in signing up of new projects from a key client.

5. Software Engineer-> Amdocs (08/17-04/19):
Worked as an associate engineer for a telecom client, was involved in mentoring new members of the team, and presented several topics during client visits (this included, client leadership as well). Worked on an implementation of a key scorecard for SVPs which resulted in onboarding new projects worth 500K USD.
