Just had both of my interviews today. First was with a PE director with 10 yrs MC experience with Bain (class of ~'02) in his office, second was with a Principal in MC specializing in the airline industry (class of ~'97) in a coffee shop.
First one was bizarre. Only way to describe it. He wasn't very enthusiastic about the program as I had expected an interviewer to be. I presume since he was sponsored by his company that he didn't have a whole lot of incentive to get every last drop out of the 10 months, but for someone not to absolutely gush about INSEAD is a first in my experience. Very cut and dry interview as opposed to a free-flowing discussion about CV and INSEAD. He had another engagement after 1 hour so cut the time short and kept looking at his watch at the end -- very off-putting. He hadn't really prepared, though had some basic questions written down...presumably the ones he was required to report back to the adcom on. He wasn't the "bad-cop" per se, but not a good cop either. By the same token, I didn't bomb the interview, but we certainly didn't click. He was kind enough to walk me out the door and crack a few jokes along the way, but it was really an odd interview.
However....the second interview was magic. Instead of straight-up asking the "why MBA / why INSEAD / why now?" questions, it was a very engaged discussion about the airline industry, leadership, and what INSEAD meant to him. The beginning of the "interview" was very much a case-study type question about a very relevant topic for my company and the airline industry in general. The interview also lasted ~1 hr, but it could have easily gone on for another two hours without break. The interviewer was exceptionally enthusiastic about INSEAD and said he would do it all over again at the drop of a hat if he had the chance. That really gave me a good feeling about the program and reinforced my decision to apply. Can't say the same about the first one.
I neither asked for feedback, nor was any proffered -- though I'm pretty sure I know where I stood where both interviewers. Time will tell how things work out, but I have my fingers firmly crossed!
Best of luck to all!
