My interviewere specifically asked me not to dress up.. I guess he want to make it clear that he wants this to be an informal discussion. I'm meeting him in a coffee shop. Any suggestions on what to wear? I'm still planning to be in formals - just not wear a suit. I don't think jeans would be appropriate.

I would go with a well pressed shirt (no tie) and a pair of well pressed khakis. Depending on where you are, if it is too warm you can wear short sleeve shirt or a golf shirt, if it is cool, then wear a blazer.

I would not recommend jeans or baggie cloth.

I just had a meeting with my first interviewer at the coffee shop. He is a General Manager for Kimberley-Clark. From the very first time we met, he asked me to be relax and said it is not a job interview but more a discussion of what my passion is.

The meeting began with me telling a short story about myself, with him occasionally interrupted me when he wanted to ask something. Then he asked the usual questions of why MBA, why INSEAD, and why now.

In the end, he said to me that the purpose of the meeting is not to judge how smart and talented the applicant is, but to find out whether the applicant has the right attitude required for INSEAD. The right attitude in his definition is the ability to interact with students from different nationalities while maintaining a high level of tolerance.

He also said that my acceptance to INSEAD will be decided more from how well my application is.

That's it! In my personal opinion, it was a 50:50 chance, so fingers crossed.

My interviewer happens to be French! Just got done with my first interviewer... Very casual. He is a senior executive at a bank. We spoke for over an hour about INSEAD and my passion to study there. He finally said that he will strongly recommend me to the program and that he thinks I'm a great fit and that I will have a good time there. A little relieved for now. Hope the second one goes well

Hi Iceinjan,

I am based in Toronto, was pre-selected on Nov 5th and received alumni contacts middle of last week. I would email the admission coordinator if I was you.

I emailed my admissions coordinator but did not get a response. I am starting to panic now. Does anyone know from past experience whether any interviews for R1 of the September intake took place in December (i.e. within the last 2 weeks before the decision date)?

Hi Iceinjan,
I'm in the same boat as you (Toronto/pre-selected/no interview details yet). I emailed and called my coordinator but haven't gotten a response yet. Let me know if you do! Thanks

Hi all, I had completed my 1st INSEAD interview and had arranged for the 2nd one to be on this Friday. And oh my! The interview lasted 2 hrs! A number of questions were asked, ranging from work experience to aspirations to why MBA to why INSEAD to my social work. I was glad the interview was very casual (though I was in a suit), conversational and my interviewer was very friendly. INSEAD interview seems to be very focused on work experience and career aspirations; these were discussed to a great detail. No matter how it goes, I was thankful that I am given the chance to interview.

Good luck all! :)

had my first interview few days back.. wasnt great.. interviewer received 2 calls and made one during the interview.. I mean tht was too distracting.. moreover, he selected a pretty chaotic location (his office is located there).. moreover,, he wasnt tht interested in the questions either.. it seemed as if he is only ticking of some basic guidelines.. anyway.. on a positive note.. we had a similar background and he also told me how he had a similar reason to do MBA from INSEAD...

hope 2nd interview will be more professional..

I had one of my INSEAD interviews and it was relatively casual and conversational. It lasted 1.5 hrs, we discussed general topics, my background, experience and career choices. The interviewer was friendly, didn't think was trying to ask any 'trick' questions and shared quite a bit about his own career, experience and background. From the beginning he tried to make me feel comfortable by saying that most/ more than half of people he had interviewed get an offer, and that the interview scores do not correlate with each other, that a high score doesn't translate into an offer and doesn't corelate with the success of the person post MBA. In short he was saying it doesn't matter as much and that it's a good opportunity for the candidates to meet more people from the school. The interviewer asseses on several criteria, including leadership potential and fit, and ultimately is asked if he/she would spend 3 hrs with you at an airport.

He didn't offer and I didn't ask for an assessment, but overall think it went well. I sent a thank you note and received a response back. Next one to go...

I just received the contact details today. They extended the deadline and my interviews will take place in the first week of December. I hope you will receive yours soon!

I didn't speak with adcom but I did speak with a few current students and they said calls started on the wednesday of the notification week and continued untill the last day. I also browsed though a few threads for the last two years and they appeared the same. So, I think we should start to expect some calls starting Dec 15, if not earlier.

I did my 2nd interview this morning. This is shorter than my 1st one, lasted 1 hr. Asked generally about what I did at work, my international experience, why MBA, my career aspirations, did I apply to other schools. It's pretty conversational. At the end of it all, my interviewer told me I should be hearing from INSEAD around the decision notification date. He said INSEAD tends to be quite precise in the timing for the release of decisions.

Hello everyone!

Just a rapid question - in the Academic background of the INSEAD application form you have to indicate the "Final grade". Does it mean GPA?
