Thanks for the update. Hard to say, I'm not sure it is that many for round 1 (compared to historical numbers)- it will be very interesting to see if anyone from the WL get the admit call in the coming days....hopefully some of us should expect to hear something next week.

chouky
I just asked the total number of people on mbaconnect at the moment: 198
This seems quite high, almost 200 for round 1 only is a lot and I’m not sure they will need people from the waitlist…
Not feeling confident right now…

I remember having read at one topic here (I need to recheck), that the number on mbaconnect for a first round decreased to something around 180. I do not remeber whether it was just after the deposit deadline or sometime later.
I do not expect many rejections from those who asked for an extension, since first round notifications of most schools are known and people are probably just need time to make transfers. This 6 people decrease is very bad news I am afraid. Still, we have nothing to do but to wait as before :)

I agree with you Brahms: 180 was also the number I had in mind. However 180 was also very high according to me because 180*3=540
So 198 is quite high too.
The only question I have is whether mbaconnect represents at the moment the reality of people who paid the fees or asked for an extension: maybe some guys declined the offer and are still on mbaconnect?? dunno and won’t know.

200 does not seem that high, assuming that fewer places are reserved for 3rd round candidates (which I have no idea if it's true but would seem logical). For example, regarding INSEAD scholarships, 20% of funds are kept for Round 3 candidates - if this proportion applies to seats, it should be something like ~200 (R1) + 200 (R2) + 100 (R3).

Hi,

Thanks for updating important numbers and sharing your thoughts.

Here I would like to address one thing. Though the number around 200 seems quite high, what seems to be quite wierd is the number of admitted indian, american, canadian, french, and chinese doesnt seem to be that bigger than previous year. Then, does it mean that more people from other countries rather than countries listed above were selected than other years? As counting total number is totally different from counting the admitted number of each country, think we need more info. than just total admitted number.

And didn't INSEAD say that it will increase the size of their class? As far as I know, it's about 980 now but I wonder if anybody here knows their target size of the class. If it's growing, the number 200 could be reasonable for R1.

I've just read the sept 2011 waitlist thread (last year). Here are my thoughts according to the stats I gathered on the thread:
Payment deadline: 21st Jan 2011
What I observed is that the total number of people on mbaco decreased between the 27th and the 29th (by 8%) compared to the 22nd (173 people on the 29th vs 188 on the 22nd right after the payment deadline); so the current numbers for this year may drop as well between now and Sunday and will raise again from next Monday until end of next week due to the acceptance of waitlisted candidates.
The stabilized number at mid-february was about 190 so maybe we can expect that number as well.
Hope this helps

Cheers chouky! That's most valuable information.

This proves there is also value in posting our current situation: it'll be useful for next year's waitlisted ;)

Yep, I sure hope we'll be more on the line of last year's drop you mentioned (-15 after 1 week past the payment deadline) than just -2 :S

Actually, If I read correctly, any news following the first installment deadline should have been received by last friday. I would assume that if we do not hear anything by the end of this week, the next milestone would be around the 24th of February, where the final decisions on R2 are published.
