A. From cycle 17 to cycle 18 the amount of time spent focusing on celestial phenomena outside of Earth’s solar system___________.

A. decreased by < 5%
B. increased by < 5%
C. doubled
D. tripled

answer : we have extrasolar % time spent in cycle 17 = 3%
we have % time spent in cycle 18 = 9%

so amount of time spent actually = 3*3% = 9% , thus tripled

so answer = D)tripled

B. No category of phenomena experienced a change in proportional focus greater than a___________from cycle 17 to cycle 18.

A. a 5 percentage point decrease
B. 50% decrease
C. 5 percentage point increase
D. 200% increase

here we do process of elimination

we have resolved stellar populations where there was 13- 5 = 8 percentage point decrease so a ) a 5 percentage point decrease is ruled out

for resolved stellar populations we have 13-5/13 *100 = 8/15*100 > 50% decrease so b)50% decrease is ruled out

for c. 5 percentage point increase - we have Extrasolar planets where increase is 9-3 = 6 percentage point increase , so c) 5 percentage point increase is also ruled out

d)200% increase : for extrasolar planets increase = 9-3/3 *100 = 200% and we can just see by obervation that no other phenomenon has greater than 200% increase , so answer is d) 200% increase

Extra solar planets increased from 3% to 9%, so it tripled. Ans. D.

A. decreased by < 5%
B. increased by < 5%
C. doubled
D. tripled

B. No category of phenomena experienced a change in proportional focus greater than a___________from cycle 17 to cycle 18.

No category of phenomena= Resolved stellar population grew from 13% in cycle 17 to 7% in cycle 18, which is decrease = (13-5)/13 ~50%
And. B.

A. a 5 percentage point decrease
B. 50% decrease
C. 5 percentage point increase
