answer is d)February 17

A. February 14
B. February 15
C. February 16
D. February 17
E. February 18
F. February 19

solution :

Days Computation Proportions approx

14th Feb 31/180 ~ 1/6

15th Feb 12/132 ~1/11

17th Feb 24/115 ~1/5

18th Feb 17/115 ~1/7

19th Feb 15/110 ~ 1/7

so clearly the winner is one with least denominator which some out to be 17th Feb -1/5 proportion which is close to 20%

The Y axis shows the cumulative numbers of earthquakes each day, divided into three categories.
For the earthquakes scaled >=3 , the data can be represented as in the below table.
From the table,
The proportion of a day’s earthquakes that registered a 3 or higher on the Richter scale was greatest (i.e. approx 20%) on 17 Feb.
Of the earthquakes shown, approximately 17% occurred on February 14.

First blank - D. February 17

In the diagram, the y-axis represents the number of earthquakes that took place around the world on 6 successive days, as recorded by the US Geological Survey. The measured magnitude of earthquakes ranges from 1 to 6 on the Richter scale, rounded down. Earthquakes of magnitudes 1 and 2 are shown separately as the two lighter colors. Earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater have been grouped together as the darkest color.

From each drop-down menu, select the option that creates the most accurate statement based on the information provided.

1. The proportion of a day’s earthquakes that registered a 3 or higher on the Richter scale was greatest on .

2. Of the earthquakes shown, approximately occurred on February 14.

There's no need to calculate percentages for the proportion part. If you look closely, the dark boxes for 15,16,18,19 are almost the same. 15 and 16 will be straight away rejected because the proportion of dark box is the same but in a larger bar. So, it's percentage will be lesser. For the same reason even 14 will be rejected. For 17 and 18, the proportion of dark box is greater in 17 than in 18 for the same bar. Hence, 17 Feb
