Same, I was 10 points off of Johnson but am matriculating next fall. This whole process is too hard to try and make cookie cutter like this.

I agree it's not science and accurate prediction is impossible. Can you share what do you think made the difference in your case? what are the main points the tool was wrong about?

It's hard to say really. I think my international work experience as a US candidate helped. I think I had a really good interview (which this does not account for). And most importantly I was passionate about Cornell and I let it show. While it doesn't always work, if you show the Adcom some love, they will be more likely to show you love.

Any engineers with a background in BME have success with Vocaz? It seems like most engineers are in the IT or ME field, I dont see to many ChemE or BME on these boards.

That's brilliant! "just show them some love", so simple :)
You can't put a price on love, and you definitely can't insert it into a statistical tool!

Speaking of love, some schools ask you which other b-schools you are applying to. Anyone knows if the answer to that question affects admission chances? should I say "I love you so much and therefore not applying to any other school"?

I just did this for entertainment purposes, like you see the horoscopes based on zodiacs & what not, and entertained I was!! :P

This, without the slightest shred of doubt, is the most stupid algorithm ever created! As per this, I shouldn't have even entertained thoughts of applying to Chicago Booth, it was that much of a stretch!

I would seriously advise everyone not to look at this tool before applying to any school. This is just stupid and might end up demotivating you. You are much better of channelizing your energies and time positively elsewhere.

OK, good to know. Can anyone answer my previous question about admitting which other b-schools you are applying to?

I had answered genuinely that I was applying to three schools. Figured that I didn't have anything to lose..

Not sure if this piece of information is used for qualitative evaluation of a candidate or just for statistical / data mining purposes..I would tend to believe its more of the latter..

That's what I thought, it wouldn't be fair to ask such question and then use my answer against me.

Who said they should be fair? life isn't fair, and we all know how much b-schools care about yield, so they might not accept you if they think you won't matriculate.

I'm not pessimistic, I'm realistic. I'm just trying to understand the rules of the game and play by them...

I looked at their list of well known companies which supposed to give you an edge and I think some companies are missing, and some shouldn't be there.

Good point. On a side note...does this tool assume all engineers have the same job function or backgrounds (I would guess electrical or comp eng)? What about other kinds of engineers?
