B it is. I originally read statement 2 and though that it could be -1/4 + 3/4.

St1:
-0.5 < x < 1.5
x can be 0<x<1 or x can be -0.5<x<-0.1. Insufficient.

St2:
3/4 = 1/4 + x
x = 1/2

So x is between 0 and 1. Sufficient.

Guys, would you please explain to me - does "between" means "in the middle"? (for example x is between 5 and 0, is x = 2.5?) I have seen this terminology before and it always confuses me...

No. x is between 0 and 5 means that x is in the range from 0 to 5.

Is x between 0 and 1?

(1) x is between -1/2 and 3/2
(2) 3/4 is 1/4 more than x

Explanation-

(1) This is a wider range so we cannot conclude if will be in between 0 and 1
(2) 3/4 = 1/4 + x
=> x= 3/4 - 1/4
=> x=1/2
Therefore we can conclude that x is between 0 and 1

Answer is B

I think for simple questions people intuitively reach an answer but can’t explain well. I will try to explain my thinking here:
There are 2 conditions we need to learn to answer this question:
I. Is x < 0?
II. Is x > 1?
If either I or II is true, then we have sufficient info. But if I is false, we need to know that II is also false to have sufficient info.

Statement 1 lets us know that condition II (x>1) is false. x is not greater than 1 if the maximum value of x is 1/2.
But we still need to determine whether condition I is false, so statement 1 is insufficient.

Statement 2 gives us the ability to solve for the value of x, so we can test both condition I and condition II with x = 1/2 and see that condition I (x < 0) is false and condition II (x>1) is also false. Since we needed to know either that condition I or condition II is true or that both conditions are false, we have sufficient information with statement 2. Therefore, the answer is b.

I am confused with the (2) statement's "more than". Does the "more than" mean ">" ? Thus i could conclude that x < 1/2?
