(1) x > 1
(2) y^2 = x

(1) no info abt y..not sufficient (x,y) (2,1/2) & (2, 4) gives us contradicting answers

(2) tells x is greater than 0
(x,y) (1, 1) & (4, 2) gives us contradicting answers..not suff

on combining only (x,y) when (1,1) and (1,-1) can satisfy the equation but since we know x>1 hence xy is not equal to 1
Sufficient
