Hi aditya01512

Thanks for posting. Here is our review:
- Overall, with a GMAT of 750, an IIT tag (though new IIT, but it still counts), solid ECA, and even some international experience, you have an excellent chance.
- On the flip side, your work in software testing is a negative for you. Not saying that it is not great work (it certainly would be), but that MBA admissions committees would tend to look at it as highly technical work. Two things for you to do here - ensure that your contribution to the school is clearly seen, and have crystal clear career goals.
- The path to consulting from a testing background will not be easy. You need to review what you can realistically reach. The long-term goal should also be looked at in more detail. For example, why not entrepreneurship right away?
- Please go through this article on someone who made it to Kellogg with a testing background and this series on Indian IT Male MBA applicants

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi Team,

I am primarily interested in applying to ISB in Round 1, and would like your invaluable advice as to how I can improve my profile to increase my chances of a convert.

My background is as follows:
Indian male, 24 years

Work-ex (everything in India)
1. Currently working with a luxury fashion and retail startup as a Strategy Consultant (7 months) (not a well known company, but well respected in the Indian fashion industry)
2. 21 months with a bulge bracket Investment Bank in its Investment Banking team
3. 2 years as an intern with a Big 4 Firm's Deal Advisory team

Education
1. Chartered Accountant (Top 5% of the class)
2. Completed all 3 levels of the CFA Program, USA
3. University (Bachelors of Commerce, graduated with the highest possible GPA, Top 5% of the class)
4. High School (Stood 3rd in Mathematics, Accounts, and English across the State)
5. School (Top 3% of the class)

ECAs
1. Represented and captained my school at various football and athletic tournaments, and was also selected to represent the State and college football teams
2. As a volunteer with 2 non-profits, taught English, Mathematics, and Football to school going children. Also, involved in community outreach programs through the firms I have worked at
3. Elected to the Development Councils at work and university, where I helped organize multiple events
4. Possess a keen interest in personal finance, and actively aid friends and colleagues in charting out financial plans for themselves
5. Black belt in Karate, have participated in and won the Best Speaker award during Model United Nations, etc. (but back in school, so this won't carry any weight)

GMAT
700 (This is on the lower side, and I will take the GMAT again if you feel that this score will hamper my application)

Goal
To work in Corporate Strategy at a multinational firm, and eventually move up to the C-Suite. An MBA would equip me with the invaluable management skill sets that will come in handy.

Advice on how to improve my profile so that I have a chance of getting admitted is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi stuggle

Nice profile there, and should stand you in good stead for ISB applications. The GMAT of 700 should be fine for ISB given your profile. ECA, acads, work are all good. Work experience is a bit staggered, and the storyline along the goals will need to be refined a bit. Other than that, with a good app, you should have a strong chance. Ensure that you start working on your app earlier for R1 this year as competition for next year (2021 intake) is expected to be extra intense for ISB.

Hi soniabindra

Thank you for posting and welcome to the GyanOne thread. Here is our assessment:
- Overall, you have a strong profile. Christ is well known for your program, and Robert Bosch is top, global employer too. You have good ECAs, and your work as a process associate itself has an operations/business flavor to it, which is a plus.
- You should target a GMAT score of anything 680 and over (of course, the higher the better). You will be in contention with anything over 680.
- The 1 year MBA will reduce your opportunity cost. It will also reduce your absolute costs if you pursue it in India. Going abroad, though, is not ruled out - the best of global education is still very attractive, but the decision to go abroad v/s stay in India is a personal one. If you have global ambitions, absolutely pursue them.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi AnirudhGMAT

- All looks good here in terms of the GMAT, work experience, and ECA.
- GPA is slightly low in your undergrad, but your PGDip makes up, and you have a good GPA there
- The slight part of concern in your profile is your move from infra to biotech. The two sectors are completely unrelated. While the planning/strategy part can be common there, we would need to go into more depth on your profile to assess this part. Please shed more light on what your goals (after ISB) are.
- This year, ISB has an entire essay on leadership, so will need to look at those aspects in your profile as well.

Overall, certainly in with a good chance, but certain aspects to be taken care of.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi abell78989

Congratulations on your 750 score. That definitely puts you in good contention at ISB. On your profile:
- Your work in analytics consulting and healthcare advisory is great. It is a niche area to be in, and that itself gives you some diversity in your profile.
- Your GPA is lowish, but your GMAT more than makes up for that.
- Good number of extra curricular activities on your profile, but most of them are activities (that still count). For this year's application, the buzzword is leadership. the last point that you have listed here seems interesting, but look at more leadership aspects on what you have done. That will be very important. Do also see the ISB essay analysis we have posted in the forum and will shortly post on this thread too.
- MBB is feasible for you as a goal, but define your goal as more than that.
- You can begin working on your ISB app now. The portal is open (today onwards).

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi avichalchopra

Looks really good overall. The YLP stage 1 process is usually about your ECA, leadership potential, and thinking ability, and the GMAT does not come into the picture till later. So focus on that stage first (deadline will be in March 2021). As of now, focus on getting good experience through internships, taking the GMAT and getting a good score (if you can, so that is out of the way), and maintaining your GPA.
