Hi, could you please evaluate my profile for ISB? I'm planning to apply for Class'24

Profile:
- 25yr old, female from Hyderabad, India.
- Education: 10.0 in class X (CBSE); 94% in XII (CBSE-Delhi public School); BBA-9.8 GPA (IBS Hyderabad)
- GRE: 337 (Q 170, V 167), given in 2022
- 3 yrs corporate work ex around Financial services (Dell Technologies and United Technologies, as a Financial Analyst) and 1 year into Family's construction business as a Purchase Executive.

Questions:
- Should I take GMAT or does this GRE score suffice the requirement?
- Should I include my family business exposure in my resume or would that push my profile back relatively?
- How else do I improvise my profile if there are any blanks that need to be worked on?

MBAkarma, ABatExpertsGlobal, ISBeacon ; Anyone and everyone is welcome to help me with your reviews and suggestions. Much appreciate your help.

- No need to retake. ISB doesn't differentiate between GMAT/GRE and this one is wayyy above average!
- I would include this exposure- both in case you did it in parallel with your Dell/United roles or otherwise (say your family needed extra hands temporarily). There have been many students in the past who have done that and it will not diminish your chances. Yes, you will be asked about it in the interview. The fact that we know it will be, means we can prepare to hit the question out of the park :)
- couldn't glean much on your extra-curricular. That's one area you can focus on + any further steps toward your goals (e.g. within FP&A, consulting, etc.) should be welcome.

Happy to have a detailed chat.

All the best,

Manan

Hi PRI23YA,

Thank you for your post!

First, I would like to say that you have an academically strong profile with a good overall CGPA at each academic level, a decent GRE score, and a decent amount of relevant work experience, which would definitely increase your chances at the school!

Coming to your questions, the average GRE score at ISB is around 320-325+, so your score does suffice; however, at renowned B-Schools like ISB, scores are never enough; you need an overall robust profile to book your seat in the MBA curriculum. Definitely include your family business exposure, as diversity in work experience is one of the major traits a candidate should possess to stand above the crowd. Moreover, since you belong to financial background, it would also help if you quantize your critical projects and add examples of leadership, responsibility, and impact generated.

Finally, regarding your profile, I would say add some ECAs & volunteering work that showcases your sense of social justice and, diversify your experience and help you grasp some key aspects of entrepreneurship; that’s the essence schools look for in a candidate’s extracurriculars. Moreover, I would like you to highlight your post-MBA goals and try to make your post-MBA goal more collinear with your work experience, for which, if you like, you could refer to our article, How to bring collinearity in your post-MBA goals? This would most certainly help provide insights about collinearity in post-MBA goals.

All in all, I would say you have an overall decent profile; all you need to do is highlight the relevant insights from these experiences in your school essays to help showcase you as a leader, growth mindset, capability, and the ability to be different from the general queue. That’s all about your profile; if you want a more detailed analysis of your profile regarding ISB, feel free to book a free session with us at your convenience.

Hello PRI23YA,

Apologies for the delayed response but we hope this finds you in time still.

Your GRE score is fantastic and you needn't take the GMAT at all. This score is bound to give you a very high chance of making it.

Whether you should add details pertaining to your exposure to the family business completely depends on the narrative in place. If you were doing this full-time, we will definitely need to add this to avoid a gap in your professional career.

With regard to profile building, focus on performing in your current role, look at taking up extra-curricular activities not merely from a volunteering point of view but activities that help showcase your leadership abilities and help you make an impact - for example: Joining a Toastmasters Club could help you work on your public speaking and leadership skills.

The following video will also help you work on your essays:

We hope this helps.

All the best!
