Hello everyone,

I am planning to apply for ISB this year. My profile is as follows:

10th- 91.2%
12th- 95.2%
Btech in Mechanical from NIT S- 93.9%
Work ex- 3.5 years in PSU
Left job one month back to prepare for GMAT.

Yet to give GMAT and write application essays.

1. I wanted to know if I should apply in R1 or R2?
2. What GMAT score should I target?
3. Can I get any scholarship?
4. How many letter of reccomendations wiil I need?

Thanks,
@ayush4356 - my answers inline:

1. I wanted to know if I should apply in R1 or R2? Everything else being equal, R1 is better. Having said that, apply when you are ready i.e. with your best possible GMAT score, essays, LoR's and application. Rushing it up in R1 is worse than submitting a robust application in R2.
2. What GMAT score should I target? 675+ GFE would be ideal. It'd also be crucial to address the career gap in your application, by being honest yet showcasing a growth/ proactive mindset.
3. Can I get any scholarship? This would depend on your GMAT score, the strength of your work-ex, ECA's, motivation and fit towards ISB, and how well you present all these angles in the essays. Some guidelines and best practices for ISB's latest essays are here
4. How many letter of reccomendations wiil I need? One. Some tips and guidelines on LoRs are here

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Arvind

ayush4356   I don't mean to be discouraging, but for a candidate coming from a PSU, the adcoms may not be very excited to learn that you resigned to prepare for the GMAT. From their perspective, this is usually the first level of check for multitasking and a sign that someone may not have the desired level of skillsets. I do hope you ace the GMAT (700+) and then the applications. If you have resigned from your job a month back just to prepare for the GMAT and applications, you should by now be in a good position to know how many LORs are needed for your target schools. I don't mean to be rude, but I hope this post serves as the wake-up call you need. Feel free to reach out if you want honest feedback on your work experience from the adcom's perspective.

Best wishes

Hey ayush4356

I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. I hope you are doing well. Your profile looks strong on the surface. Choosing between R1 and R2 is a tough call. R1 applications tend to get reviewed first, which can be an advantage. But the competition might be a bit fiercer. R2 gives you more time to polish your GMAT score and essays. Honestly, it depends on how prepared you feel with your application.

With those stellar grades, a strong GMAT score can really make your application shine. The higher you score, the better your chances of acceptance.

ISB does offer scholarships based on academic merit and diversity. Your grades are definitely scholarship-worthy, but the competition can be tough.

SB usually asks for two letters, ideally one professional and one academic. Getting recommendations from people who know you well and can speak to your potential as a leader and team player is key.
To give you the best possible advice on your application strategy, including scholarship potential and GMAT resources, we'd love to connect. There might be some interesting projects or achievements from your 3.5 years at the PSU that could be a great addition to your application essays.
