It is determined that 25 of every 100 men and 600 of every 1,000 women wear glasses. If the number of women in a particular room is four times more than that of men, calculate the probability of a person without glasses being randomly selected.

(A) 0.47
(B) 0.45
(C) 0.49
(D) 0.48
(E) 0.43

total men with glasses; 25/100; 1/4 ; not glasses ; 3/4
and total women with glasses; 600/1000 ; 3/5 ; not glasses 2/5
and given that w=4m
let m = 20 and w= 80
total =100
so men not glasses ; 3/4 * 20 ; 15 and women not glasses ; 2/5 * 80 ; 32
total not glasses ; 15+32 ; 47
P not glasses ; 47/100; .47
OPTION A

(A) 0.47
(B) 0.45
(C) 0.49
(D) 0.48
(E) 0.43

We can let 100 = the number of men in the room. Thus, the number of women in the room is 400. Furthermore 25 men and 400 x 600/1000 = 400 x 3/5 = 240 women wear glasses. Therefore, the probability that a randomly selected person does not wear glasses is:

(100 + 400 - 25 - 240) / (100 + 400) = 235/500 = 0.47
